What Is a Space?

A Space is a shared computer for a department or durable team.

It can run Claude, Codex, and other supported harnesses and models. Everyone in the Space works with the same connections, skills, memory, conversations, and Library.

That is the important difference. You do not need a separate agent for every task. You can give Marketing one Space, connect its tools once, and create channels for campaigns, content, reporting, launches, and anything else the team needs.

What the shared computer includes

One Space, many kinds of work

Channels share the Space’s computer, connections, and memory. Library items can stay at the Space level, where every conversation can discover them, or be filed into one channel for a more focused context.

For example, a Marketing Space might have:

• A brand channel for design and copy.
• A campaigns channel for launches and paid media.
• A reporting channel connected to commerce and advertising data.
• A content channel for drafts, reviews, and publishing.

The channels stay organized, but all of them benefit from the same setup.

Shared conversations

Threads are visible to everyone with access unless the thread is private. A coworker can join a thread, read the full context, prompt alongside you, comment on the work, or continue from where you stopped.

AI responses are the default. Switch to Team message when you want to talk with coworkers without invoking AI.

Because the conversation lives in the Space, AI can use the Space’s memory, skills, connections, and working context to give a useful response and take action.

Shared output

The work does not have to end as a message. AI can build:

• Documents your team edits together.
• Dashboards connected to business data.
• Internal tools with persistent data.
• Working apps your team can use and keep improving.

These become part of the Space Library, next to the conversations that created them. From Library, you can add a document, file, app, or skill to an existing channel or create a new channel for it. Items left at the Space level remain available from the Space’s main Threads view.

Access and sharing

Public Spaces can be discovered and joined by anyone in the workspace. Private Spaces are limited to the people you add.

A private thread can still be limited to its participants. Documents and apps have their own sharing controls, so they can stay narrow or be shared more broadly when needed.

Use Sidekick when the work should stay private to you.
