Quickstart: Create Your First Space
A Space is a shared computer for a department or durable team. It runs Claude or Codex with the connections, skills, memory, conversations, and files that the team needs.
Create the Space
Section titled “Create the Space”- Open the Create menu and choose Space.
- Pick a template, or describe the work in your own words.
- Review the prompt and make it specific to your team.
- Choose Claude or Codex, then pick the model you want to start with.
- Create the Space. Type generates its name and description from your prompt.
- In the setup thread, review the proposed skills, automations, and connections before adding them.
The templates are starting points:
| Template | Good for |
|---|---|
| Engineering | Code, bugs, pull requests, technical planning, and incidents |
| Marketing | Campaigns, copy, SEO, ads, and competitive research |
| Support | Customer questions, response drafts, issue trends, and knowledge work |
| Sales | Pipeline updates, account research, meeting briefs, and follow-up |
| Data | Metrics, reports, analysis, and recurring business reviews |
| HR & Ops | Recruiting, people operations, internal processes, and coordination |
Selecting a template does not connect tools or create automations on its own. You approve those changes during setup.
Choose access
Section titled “Choose access”- Public Spaces can be found and joined by anyone in the workspace.
- Private Spaces are visible only to the people you add.
Use Sidekick for work that should stay private to you.
Finish the setup
Section titled “Finish the setup”- Add connections for the tools and data the Space needs.
- Review skills for repeatable workflows.
- Add automations for scheduled and event-driven work.
- Create channels to keep ongoing work organized.
- Invite coworkers so they can join threads, prompt with you, and review the same work.
- Adjust models, notifications, access, and other defaults in Space settings.
